Uni High strikers are ahead of the competition

University High senior Mollie Kessler hopes to cap her four-year varsity career by leading the Trojans soccer team to the Pacific Coast League title.

Nic Conta, center back

University High senior Nic Conta leads the Trojans soccer team by example.

“My job is bringing that personality onto the field that pushes our guys to keep fighting every game,” says the center back.

It’s been working. The Trojans went undefeated to start the season and are looking to go deep in the playoffs.

“Nic has shown tremendous leadership and performed tremendously,” Coach Martin Wallwork says.

Conta relishes his role on the team.

“Coach Martin tells us the sport is not played on paper,” he says. “You need that passion and that character to win games and accomplish what we want.”

Conta plans to attend UCLA next year and play club soccer.

Mollie Kessler, midfielder

University High senior Mollie Kessler hopes to cap her four-year varsity career by leading the Trojans soccer team to the Pacific Coast League title.

All signs point to the Trojans doing just that.

“She is our leader on and off the field,” Coach Cole Fipps says. “She’s had a great year and has come up big for us numerous times.”

Kessler is doing what she can to help her team win the title and make a run at the CIF finals.

“As an older player and a captain, I try to lead the defense, help the team stay organized and contribute to the attack as much as possible,” she says.

Kessler will continue her soccer career at the University of Chicago next season.
