Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian’s medical center on Sand Canyon is going through a $1 billion major expansion, which will add specialty care services and more than 1,000 jobs.

The expansion will more than double the number of its hospital beds and nearly double its square footage, says Hoag President and CEO Robert T. Braithwaite. Three institutes – focused on women’s health, cancer care and digestive illnesses – are set to open in 2025, housed in new three-story buildings.

Hoag is trying to create what company officials call a “wellness village,” which will allow Irvine residents to get comprehensive care without having to drive elsewhere.
