More than 600 volunteers from Johnson & Johnson MedTech offered over 1,200 volunteer hours to students and families in Irvine and Orange County during their annual Week of Caring last month.

“Week of Caring was established to provide J&J MedTech teams with the opportunity to give back,” says Kimberly Graves, senior manager of global employee engagement. “This year, we added more events than ever before, giving our employees additional opportunities to volunteer.”

This year’s initiatives included HOPE kits for breast cancer patients and hygiene kits for housing-challenged students, thousands of snack bags for underserved residents and harvesting 12,000 pounds of fresh produce for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

In partnership with Dreams for Schools, J&J MedTech employees assembled 2,300 science and art kits containing projects such as robotic arms, electric Play Doh and stomp rockets aimed at third to fifth graders.

Jewel Chu, senior regulatory affairs specialist, participated in that event. “Spots fill up fast since this is one of the best initiatives we have at our campus,” Chu says. “My favorite part of the week is seeing our teams come together outside the office.”
